College pickleball players from across South Carolina will descend on the Cayce Pickleball Complex on Saturday, November 21, 2026, for the inaugural South Carolina Collegiate Pickleball Championship, a fall pilot tournament designed to bring college athletes together for a day of competition. The event will feature men's singles, women's singles, and mixed doubles play, with registration running $40 per player and a sign-up deadline of November 14.
Southeastern Sports Management Group LLC is organizing the tournament, and according to The Lexington Ledger, interested participants can find registration information and contact details through the organizing group. The newspaper reports that organizers have indicated a weather-related postponement could push the competition to Sunday, November 22. Final tournament format, college eligibility requirements, and spectator access should all be confirmed directly with event organizers, per the same report.
A Built-For-Tournaments Venue
The Cayce Pickleball Complex, located at 1500 Dunbar Road in Cayce, South Carolina, brings plenty of infrastructure to the table for a debut collegiate event. The facility boasts 16 dedicated outdoor pickleball courts, according to columbiascsports.com, and was designed to host local, regional, and national tournaments. The complex also features professional-grade lighting for evening play, ample spectator seating, and amenities including restrooms, concessions, and shaded viewing areas, the venue profile notes.
This won't be the complex's first taste of high-level competition. The venue hosted the PPA Challenger Series in March 2025, a three-day event that ran March 28 through 30, as reported by Lexington County Chronicle. That tournament, held at what the outlet described as the brand-new 16-court facility, carried a $10,000 prize pool and was estimated to generate around $700,000 in economic impact for the area. Amateur registration for that event closed March 21, 2025, the Chronicle reported.
Part of a Bigger Trend on College Campuses
The Cayce tournament arrives as pickleball continues its rapid rise nationally. USA Pickleball describes the sport as the fastest-growing in the United States, adding that college campuses are leading the charge, according to usapickleball.org. The organization has pointed to a joint effort among the Association of Pickleball Players, the National Intramural and Recreational Sports Association, Selkirk Sport, and USA Pickleball itself to grow college pickleball across the country.
Some collegiate tournaments carry extra weight beyond bragging rights. USA Pickleball notes that certain collegiate events qualify participants for entry into the APP Selkirk U.S. Collegiate Championships, underscoring how local tournaments like Cayce's fall pilot can feed into a larger competitive pipeline for student athletes.
The South Carolina Collegiate Pickleball Championship aims to highlight the growing popularity of pickleball among college students and sports enthusiasts, bringing together athletes from across the state for a single day of competition at a venue already built to handle the crowds.
