A 16-year-old boy was struck and killed by a dark-colored SUV that fled the scene in Channelview Saturday night, and as of Sunday morning the Harris County Sheriff's Office said the investigation remained ongoing. The teenager has been identified as Ramiro Jayden Carmona.

According to Click2Houston, the crash happened around 9:30 p.m. Saturday in the 16000 block of Ridlon in Channelview. Investigators told the outlet that a witness saw the dark-colored SUV strike the teenager before driving away. He was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital in downtown Houston, where he was later pronounced dead.

A separate account from Houston Stringer identified the victim as Ramiro Jayden Carmona, 16, and reported that deputies found him in the second lane on the south side of the roadway. That outlet reported he was pronounced deceased at 11:15 p.m., and said the case has been handed to the Harris County Sheriff's Office Vehicular Crimes Division.

Parents Were With Him, Deputies Say Suspect Already Gone

ABC13 reported that investigators identified the teenager as a Hispanic male and said his parents were with him, with officials expecting to speak with them as part of the investigation. The station reported that authorities did not release details about the suspect, saying only that the driver was gone by the time deputies arrived on scene.

Deputies told ABC13 they plan to review nearby Flock camera footage as part of the investigation, though it has not been confirmed whether that footage has actually been pulled or what it might show. No additional information about the driver or the vehicle involved has been released, and investigators say the case remains open.

Not the First Fatal Hit-and-Run in the Area

Channelview has seen other fatal roadway incidents in recent months, though each is a separate case and the examples do not establish a pattern or rate on their own. In October 2025, a pedestrian was struck and killed in the 15900 block of Ridlon Avenue around 7:18 p.m., though in that case Click2Houston reported the driver stayed at the scene.

In July 2025, a bicyclist was killed when an 18-wheeler struck him near Market Street and Dell Dale Street along East Freeway, and the station reported the truck driver fled without stopping to help. And in a March 2026 case reported by Houston Stringer, a pedestrian was struck by a black Chevrolet Suburban on East Freeway; that driver reportedly pulled over, left, and later contacted the sheriff's office, telling investigators he had not realized he struck a person. Authorities in that case said they did not believe alcohol was a factor.

For now, the Harris County Sheriff's Office has not named a suspect or released a vehicle description in Carmona's death. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact investigators as the search for the driver continues.
