A 39-year-old sex offender has accepted a 12-year no-parole prison sentence for raping a 12-year-old girl in North Little Rock. The sentence means the man will serve the full term behind bars with no possibility of early release.
According to The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, the man accepted the plea deal rather than go to trial.
How This Sentence Compares to Other Arkansas Cases
The 12-year no-parole term is notably shorter than sentences handed down in other recent Arkansas child rape cases. In Pulaski County, a sex offender was sentenced to 25 years for raping an 11-year-old girl, as reported by the Northwest Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
What State Law Says About Child Rape Sentences
A 2025 Arkansas Sentencing Commission impact assessment described rape of a child under 14 as a Class Y felony carrying a mandatory minimum 25-year prison term under the law as it stood at that time, with a sentence of life without parole available when the offense involved forcible compulsion.
The same commission assessment was prepared in connection with proposed legislation, Senate Bill 375, which would have created a new offense called capital rape, punishable by death or life without parole. Under the proposal, defendants who were under 18 at the time of the offense could instead receive a parole-eligible life sentence after serving at least 20 years. The assessment describes a legislative proposal rather than a change already in effect.
The Broader Numbers Behind Arkansas Rape Cases
Felony rape convictions are not rare in Arkansas courts. The Arkansas Sentencing Commission's assessment cited data from the Arkansas Administrative Office of the Courts showing 642 felony rape convictions statewide between January 1, 2022, and December 31, 2024.
Arkansas State Police have announced the outcome of a case involving a former Conway County Sheriff's Office deputy. In a post on X, the agency said former deputy Joseph Taylor Dube, 34, entered a negotiated guilty plea to rape and was sentenced to 22 years in prison, after the agency's Criminal Investigation Division began investigating in 2025 following a report alleging Dube sexually abused a minor.
