A crash on Interstate 95 North at 8th Street in Jacksonville sent four adults to the hospital Friday morning and left lanes blocked as heavy traffic delays built up through the area. Drivers were urged to use caution and find another route while law enforcement worked the scene.
The four adults suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were taken to a local hospital, according to a Jacksonville Fire and Rescue spokesperson cited by First Coast News. The crash blocked an additional travel lane as well as the off-ramp lane at 8th Street, compounding the backup for commuters trying to exit the highway.
Law enforcement remained on scene as crews worked to clear the area, and officials advised drivers to use caution and seek alternate routes while the lanes stayed blocked. The outlet's report does not say how long the closures lasted or when the lanes reopened.
A Familiar Trouble Spot for Jacksonville Drivers
This stretch of I-95 North has seen its share of trouble before. Back in February 2025, a multi-vehicle crash shut down all northbound lanes at the same 8th Street location, a closure that happened around 12:31 p.m. and was cleared by 3 p.m. that day, according to a report from News4JAX. That report noted the Florida Highway Patrol had not immediately provided additional details on what caused the crash.
Jacksonville's I-95 corridor has also seen trouble a few miles south. A separate crash with injuries once blocked two northbound lanes near Union Street, causing significant delays for drivers coming off the Fuller Warren Bridge and leaving downtown, per Action News Jax. Both incidents underscore how quickly a single crash on this heavily traveled stretch of interstate can ripple into gridlock for commuters across downtown Jacksonville.
For now, officials have not released further details on what caused Friday's crash at 8th Street or how long the affected lanes stayed closed. Drivers heading through the area should continue to expect delays and plan for alternate routes until conditions are confirmed clear.
