A Pleasant Hill man failed to yield the right-of-way at a rural Darke County intersection Friday evening, triggering a two-vehicle crash that sent a Greenville woman to the hospital. Emergency crews converged on State Route 49 and Pitsburg Laura Road at approximately 7:03 p.m. Friday to find a Ford Mustang and a Chevy Equinox tangled at the crossroads.
Pitsburg Fire, Arcanum Rescue and Darke County Sheriff's deputies were dispatched to the scene, according to The Daily Advocate. A preliminary investigation found that 21-year-old Ryan Woods of Pleasant Hill, Ohio, had stopped his 2023 Ford Mustang at the intersection before entering it and failing to yield the right-of-way, directly into the path of a 2018 Chevy Equinox.
That Equinox was being driven by 22-year-old Destiny Warner of Greenville, whose vehicle struck Woods's Mustang in the collision. Woods was treated at the scene for his injuries, while Warner was transported to Wayne Health Care for treatment, per the outlet's reporting.
Investigation Remains Open
The crash remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff's Office, which has not released additional findings on fault or any resulting citations. No further details on Warner's condition or treatment outcome have been made public.
Friday's wreck adds to a string of recent collisions reported at the same stretch of roadway. A car-and-semi crash at the intersection of Pitsburg-Laura Road and State Route 49 on a Monday afternoon around 2:35 p.m. prompted a CareFlight request, with at least one person taken to the hospital and the intersection temporarily closed, according to Dayton 24/7 Now.
A Pattern of Wrecks Along SR 49
Other crashes nearby have sent multiple people to area hospitals in the past. A separate collision at State Route 49 and Pitsburg Laura Road left three people hospitalized after a Saturday evening wreck, WHIO reported. In another incident on the same highway, a 16-year-old driver allegedly failed to yield from a stop sign, sending two people to Miami Valley Hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries, the station also reported.
A single-vehicle crash in the 1000 block of State Route 49 further illustrates the corridor's troubled history — a vehicle struck a utility pole, and a woman was taken to Miami Valley Hospital for evaluation, according to the same outlet's coverage. None of those earlier incidents have been confirmed to be connected to Friday's crash involving Woods and Warner, and the Darke County Sheriff's Office has not indicated whether the intersection carries any special designation.
For now, the investigation into Friday's crash continues, with no citations or fault determinations yet made public. Anyone with additional information on the circumstances of the collision has not been given a specific point of contact in reporting so far.
