University Retirement Community officially welcomed its newest neighbors, celebrating the grand opening of The Vista with a ceremonial ribbon cutting on its Davis campus. The $54 million expansion adds a four-story residential building and a slate of resort-style amenities to the senior living community. More than 250 people turned out for the occasion.

According to a release distributed by EIN Presswire, the crowd included new residents, local community leaders, civic officials, project partners and organizational executives who gathered on campus for dedication remarks, the ribbon cutting itself, guided tours of the new buildings, and celebratory toasts. University Retirement Community, located in Davis, offers independent living.

The Vista itself includes a modern four-story residential building. Per the University Retirement Community's own expansion page, apartment floor plans range from 1,240 to 1,575 square feet, and residents moving into The Vista will have access to the broader campus's dining venues, pools, fitness classes, and arts and recreation programming.

Pickleball Courts, Firepits and a Greenhouse

The amenity list leans into the active-retiree pitch: outdoor pickleball courts, shade-covered dining and grill areas, firepits with lounge seating, an outdoor exercise deck, an indoor yoga studio, a greenhouse, and resort-style rooftop amenities all feature in the new development, the release states. The development also includes new residential units.

The Vista adds residential options and amenities to University Retirement Community.

A Years-Long Path From Groundbreaking to Opening

The opening caps a yearslong planning and construction process. A Sacramento Business Journal report from early 2024 described the then-proposed project as adding 41 new residential units, most of them inside a four-story building.

A separate Davis Enterprise piece noted the University Retirement Community broke ground on The Vista in October 2024.

Cost Figures Vary Across Reports

Project funding figures also diverge depending on the source. Wednesday's announcement describes The Vista as a $54 million expansion, while a Daily Democrat item from October 2024 reported that University Retirement Community had received $58 million for the new expansion project. It is not established whether those two figures describe the same measure of project cost.

Pacific Retirement Services operates retirement communities. A February report from Senior Housing News cited a smaller count still, stating that Pacific Retirement Services has 37 communities. That same report noted the company was planning expansion projects this year at four high-occupancy communities to capture rising demand, a strategy The Vista's debut now appears to reflect.
