Metro Denver Crime Stoppers, the nonprofit that handles the tips, says it has operated since 1981. Its website lists 3,396 arrests and 5,855 cases cleared from tips, with those figures last updated May 13, 2024. The organization says tipsters may be eligible for awards of up to $2,000, though the amount offered can vary by case and special-reward cases are also listed. The crime alert states that the tip line is answered 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Those who choose to submit a tip through the Metro Denver Crime Stoppers website are told their submissions are encrypted, entirely confidential, and completely anonymous, according to the organization's tip-submission page. After submitting online, tipsters receive a unique ID number to track the status of their tip and are asked to log back in within 24 to 48 hours in case investigators have follow-up questions, the same page notes.
Anonymity is built into the state’s legal framework for Crime Stoppers: Colorado lawmakers declared that tipsters’ identities and Crime Stoppers’ records should be protected so people who fear involvement or publicity may still share information. That legal protection is distinct from the organization’s online encryption and confidential-submission procedures. Colorado’s statute governing Crime Stoppers organizations sets out that legislative purpose.
The Denver Police Department's post on X lists the tip-line number as 730-913-STOP (7867).
