Denver is waking to partly cloudy skies Wednesday morning, with clouds increasing by afternoon, but the city is headed for another mild afternoon before a quick mountain storm changes the backdrop. Temperatures should climb to near 57, with partly sunny skies through most of the day. A slight chance of rain showers arrives after 5 p.m., and the low settles near 37 Wednesday night.
Rain Chance Arrives After The Warmest Hours
Winds will stay light, generally 2 to 7 mph, shifting from easterly to northeasterly as clouds build. The chance of rain in Denver is only 20%, so most city plans should stay dry, though a passing shower is possible during the evening commute.
Mountain Snow Could Complicate I-70 Travel
The National Weather Service in Denver/Boulder expects snow to develop in the mountains and foothills west and south of the city Wednesday afternoon through early Thursday. A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 2 p.m. Wednesday to 2 a.m. Thursday for portions of Summit and Park counties, where 3 to 10 inches is forecast and isolated higher totals are possible.
Travelers heading into the high country should expect the roughest conditions in western Park County and along higher stretches near I-70, where several inches of snow could make roads slick. Denver itself is expected to avoid snow accumulation, and the payoff arrives Thursday with sunny skies, a high near 58, followed by a mostly dry stretch with highs around 60 Saturday and 65 Sunday and Monday.
