Sean “Diddy” Combs now has a new projected release date from federal prison, moving up nearly a month from the previous projection, following his transfer from a facility in New Jersey to one in Pennsylvania. The 56-year-old music mogul is serving more than four years behind bars after being convicted last year of transporting prostitutes across state lines for drug-fueled sex parties known as “freak-offs.”
According to the Los Angeles Times, the Federal Bureau of Prisons inmate database now lists Combs' projected release date as February 6, 2028. That is a shift from where things stood in October, when the same database showed a projected date of March 2, 2028, itself a revision from an earlier projection of January 21, 2028, per the Los Angeles Times report. TMZ, meanwhile, reported that the Bureau of Prisons database had been updated to show Combs would now be a free man on “February 6, 2028, instead of March 2, 2028,” and noted that previous projected dates had also included January 21, February 5, and February 20.
Combs was originally projected for a June 2028 release after he was sentenced in October 2025. His release date has changed multiple times since his conviction, for reasons that have not been fully explained in the available record.
A Transfer Between Low-Security Facilities
The latest shift in Combs' timeline comes after his move from FCI Fort Dix, a low-security federal prison in New Jersey, to FCI Allenwood Low in Pennsylvania. Variety reported the transfer took place on Friday, October 16, 2026, and that it followed Combs being hospitalized for a head injury. NewsNation similarly reported that Combs was “sent to a nearby medical facility after suffering a head injury last month.”
Federal officials have not disclosed why Combs was moved. The Bureau of Prisons told Variety, “we do not discuss the conditions of confinement for any individual in our custody, including reasons for transfer.” A spokesperson for Combs described the move as a routine matter between two low-security facilities, saying it is “consistent with a decision made with safety and security in mind.”
Fort Dix houses roughly 4,000 prisoners, while Allenwood Low holds about 1,000, according to a report from Newsweek. Combs is being held in the general population at FCI Allenwood, per the Los Angeles Times report.
Spokesperson Pushes Back on Coverage
Combs' spokesperson told Newsweek that Combs continues to serve his sentence while awaiting a decision on his appeal. The spokesperson also pushed back on the volume of coverage surrounding Combs' day-to-day prison life, saying media portrayals of mundane details mischaracterize ordinary prison routines as news.
The Jamaica Gleaner's account of the case notes that Combs is serving a 50-month sentence after being convicted on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution, and that his projected release dates have shifted several times — from an original June 2028 projection to as early as January 21, 2028, before being pushed back again to March 2, 2028, and now to February 6, 2028. Reports describing alleged prison-rule violations and special treatment tied to Combs remain attributed to those reports and unnamed sources rather than independently confirmed here.
