A man was found unconscious in the Burlington parking lot at Plymouth Meeting Mall Friday night after a driver struck him and sped off without stopping, according to Plymouth Township police. Officers responded to the scene at 500 W. Germantown Pike at 10 p.m. on Nov. 6, and the vehicle involved was already gone by the time they arrived.
According to the Plymouth Township Police Department, responding officers found an unconscious man in the parking lot outside the Burlington store. Emergency medical personnel treated him at the scene before transporting him to Paoli Hospital. His condition following the crash was not immediately available, and police have not released a description of the vehicle or its driver.
Police said plainly that the vehicle responsible did not stick around. “The striking vehicle did not remain on location and fled the area,” the department said in its case notice. As first reported by Daily Voice, the crash falls within the Conshohocken-Plymouth Meeting area and remains an active investigation as of Saturday.
Police Seek Witnesses and Video
Investigators are asking anyone who witnessed the crash, captured cell phone video, or has since learned anything about what happened to come forward. The department's notice states that anyone with information is asked to call the Plymouth Township Police Department's Detective Division. Tips can be submitted anonymously by email to [email protected].
The department also noted it was assisted on scene by the Plymouth Community Ambulance Association and the Harmonville Fire Company, both of which responded to help treat and transport the injured man. No further details about the crash's cause have been released, and the case remains under investigation.
Not the First Pedestrian Crash in the Area
Plymouth Meeting has seen other serious pedestrian crashes in recent years, though the available evidence does not point to a broader pattern tying them together. A 90-year-old man was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle around 5:51 a.m. on Dec. 19, 2024, on Germantown Pike west of Walton Road, according to Daily Voice. In that case, the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, and the injured man was taken to Jefferson Abington Hospital in critical but stable condition.
A more severe case unfolded in October 2022, when 79-year-old Warren Flagg was struck outside his own home on Beck Road between Powell and North Territorial around 7 p.m. and died later that evening from his injuries, according to Plymouth Voice. Police in that investigation believed the suspect vehicle was a 2007-2010 Pontiac Solstice with likely front passenger-side damage, though its color was never determined. A local manufacturing company, Sure Conveyors, offered a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in that case.
No such detail about the vehicle involved in Friday's crash has been released. Plymouth Township police continue to ask anyone with information about the Burlington parking lot hit-and-run to contact the Detective Division as the investigation proceeds.
