A gun sale between two teenage friends in east Tulsa ended with one of them shot in the kneecap and robbed of his cash, according to police. Officers arrested a 16-year-old boy following the shooting Monday evening at the TradeWinds Villas apartments, and the 17-year-old victim was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police responded around 5:51 p.m. to a shooting near South Garnett Road and East 41st Street, according to KTUL. When officers arrived at TradeWinds Villas, they found the 17-year-old victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his knee, with several witnesses already on scene helping him and relaying details of what had happened, as FOX23 reported.

Victim Says Gun Purchase Turned Into a Robbery

The victim told officers he had gone to meet a friend, the 16-year-old suspect, to buy a gun from him. Instead of completing the sale, the suspect allegedly robbed the victim of his cash and then shot him in the kneecap, the station's report states. Officers searched the area after the shooting and located the suspect, taking him into custody without further incident.

The 16-year-old was booked into the Community Intervention Center on complaints of first-degree robbery and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, per the same account. A separate report from 935 The Patriot noted that neither teenager has been publicly named, since both are minors.

A Similar Case Earlier This Year

It is not the first time Tulsa police have investigated a teen-on-teen shooting tied to an alleged robbery attempt. In a separate incident reported by News On 6, two teenagers exchanged gunfire in an apartment parking lot on May 27 after what police described as an attempted armed robbery. In that case, a 17-year-old suffered a gunshot wound to the shoulder, while the 16-year-old suspect was shot in the wrist and was expected to be booked into the Community Intervention Center on complaints of armed robbery and shooting with intent to kill once he was released from the hospital.

Monday's shooting remains under investigation, and police have not released additional details beyond the account given by the 17-year-old victim.
