A 17-year-old East Windsor girl died early Monday morning after being found unresponsive near her Mill Pond Village apartment complex, just hours after her grandmother reported her missing. Police said there is no indication the death is linked to criminal activity and that there is no threat to the public.

According to Hartford Courant, the girl's grandmother contacted police around 5:54 a.m. Monday to report her granddaughter missing, saying the teen had last been seen around midnight. The grandmother and granddaughter lived together at the Mill Pond Village apartment complex in East Windsor, per the same report.

Roughly 30 minutes after that missing-person report, a resident discovered the teen unconscious and unresponsive on the Mill Pond Village property, according to Daily Voice. Officers began life-saving measures before East Windsor ambulance personnel took over medical aid at the scene, per the Hartford Courant's reporting.

Rushed to Connecticut Children's Medical Center, Pronounced Dead Within the Hour

The teen was transported to Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford, where she was pronounced dead at 7:33 a.m., police said, according to the Hartford Courant. Daily Voice similarly reported that doctors pronounced her dead about an hour after she was found. Police said they do not believe criminal activity played a role in her death, and said there is no threat to the public at this time.

The girl had previously attended East Windsor High School but had since enrolled in a different school program, Daily Voice reported. The Hartford Courant reported that an East Windsor school resource officer communicated with Superintendent Dr. Patrick Tudryn and East Windsor High School administration about the incident following her death.

Police Withholding Her Name Out of Respect for the Family

Due to the teen's age, police said they would not be releasing her name or further details about the incident, according to WFSB. The East Windsor Police Department said no further identifiers or specific incident details would be released out of respect for the family's privacy and because of the deceased's age, per the Hartford Courant.
