A 65-year-old Huntington Beach woman has died after she was struck by a silver Toyota 4Runner while crossing Edinger Avenue near Springdale Street, just before 10 p.m. on Halloween night. The woman was taken to a local hospital for treatment but later succumbed to her injuries, according to police.

The crash occurred on Edinger Avenue near Springdale Street. Police say the woman was crossing southbound across Edinger Avenue, east of Springdale Street, when the Toyota, traveling eastbound on Edinger, struck her. She was transported for medical treatment.

The driver, a 25-year-old man from Midway City, was not injured, according to the department's account. He remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Police say driver impairment did not appear to have been a factor in the collision, and pedestrian impairment is not known to have been a factor either.

Investigators Seek Witnesses to Edinger Avenue Crash

The department's Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team is handling the ongoing investigation. Police are encouraging anyone who witnessed the collision, or who has information about events leading up to it, to come forward. Traffic investigator Tam Do has been identified as a contact for the case, reachable at 714-536-5666.

This is not the first fatal pedestrian crash to hit this stretch of road. In July 2021, Huntington Beach police investigated a fatal pedestrian collision on Edinger Avenue east of Springdale Street in which the driver was believed to have fled westbound after striking the victim, according to the Los Angeles Times. Officers closed the roadway in both directions until 11 a.m. that day to search for evidence, the paper reported.

A Pattern of Fatal Crashes Near the Same Corridor

A separate Huntington Beach collision killed a 71-year-old pedestrian after he was struck by a northbound white Ford F-250 near Springdale Street and Brannen Drive, the Los Angeles Times reported. The driver remained at the scene and cooperated with investigators, and police said driver impairment did not appear to be a factor. HBPD's Multidisciplinary Accident Investigation Team investigated the crash.

In August 2020, a 26-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed on Springdale Street near Croupier Drive; the driver cooperated with police, who arrested her on suspicion of driving under the influence, the Orange County Register reported at the time.
