Fish Nor Fowl has closed its doors on Penn Avenue in Pittsburgh's Garfield neighborhood, nearly eight years after it first opened there. The restaurant announced the closure on its own website, saying it had served its last plate after a long run in the space.
“After nearly eight years on Penn Avenue, we've served our last plate,” the restaurant wrote, according to WTAE. The station reports that Fish Nor Fowl sits in Garfield and is owned by the DeShantz Restaurant Group.
A Farewell Message to Guests and Staff
In its closing statement, the restaurant looked back fondly on the meals and nights it hosted over the years. “Thank you to everyone who joined us for pasta, cocktails and long dinners upstairs,” the restaurant said, per the same report.
The message also turned to the people who kept the kitchen and dining room running. “Thank you to our team, who made every night what it was,” the restaurant wrote, adding that cooking for its customers had been an honor.
A Restaurant With a Long History on Penn Avenue
Fish Nor Fowl's run on Penn Avenue wasn't without interruption. The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported in February 2023 that the restaurant would reopen on Feb. 14, nearly three years after shuttering at the onset of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020.
The restaurant's roots in Garfield go back further still. A 2018 Post-Gazette report described Fish Nor Fowl as the seventh location from chef-owner Rick DeShantz and business partner Tolga Sevdik when it first opened in the neighborhood.
