Five commercial buildings and the infrastructure to support them are headed for a City of Charleston review this week, part of a proposal known as Point Hope Site 10A on 5.6 acres in the Cainhoy area. The project is slated for a Technical Review Committee meeting on Thursday, Nov. 5.
According to The Daniel Island News, the listing describes the proposal simply as construction of five commercial buildings with associated infrastructure on the 5.6-acre parcel. Jourdan Kiaupa is the project contact.
There's a wrinkle in pinning down exactly where the project sits. The current listing gives the address as 1109 UT Eden Valley St. in Cainhoy, but the outlet's own earlier coverage, in a piece titled Point Hope projects move forward, described the Site 10A site plan as being located at 1260 Clements Ferry Road in Cainhoy. Nothing in the available record resolves which address is current or correct.
A Project With a Paper Trail
Point Hope Site 10A isn't a brand-new name on city paperwork. Agenda records from the City of Charleston show the project appearing before the Technical Review Committee as a site plan review as far back as July 2023, when it was listed as item No. 8 on the agenda for that meeting, according to the City of Charleston.
The July 2023 meeting results list the outcome for Point Hope Site 10A as “Submit to TRC for 1st Review.”
What Isn't Known Yet
The available listings don't say what the five buildings would be used for, how large they would be, or who might occupy them. There's also no indication yet of how this week's review will turn out — whether the project is approved, sent back for changes, or tabled altogether. Thursday's meeting is one of several items the City of Charleston's boards and committees are set to take up as part of their review of development proposals in the area during the week of Nov. 3.
For now, Point Hope Site 10A joins a list of projects in the broader Cainhoy growth corridor that have been inching through the city's technical review process, with the latest step landing on the calendar for Thursday.
