Charleston woke Friday to fog and temperatures near 68 degrees, but the murk will not stick around. Temperatures should climb toward 80 before showers and thunderstorms become more likely this afternoon, setting up a cooler, sunnier weekend.
Afternoon Storms Could Complicate Friday Plans
A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms begins between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., with the better chance arriving later in the afternoon. The National Weather Service expects scattered storms to become most likely from roughly 3 p.m. through early evening, with southwest winds around 3 to 9 mph.
Some downpours could be briefly heavy, with lightning and gusty winds possible as a cold front crosses the Lowcountry. Rainfall will generally range from a tenth to a quarter-inch, with locally higher totals near the northern Charleston and Berkeley County line; no watches or warnings were listed Friday morning.
Cooler, Calmer Weather Takes Over This Weekend
The front should move offshore Friday evening, leaving a chance of rain before 7 p.m. and a mostly cloudy night with a low near 60. Saturday looks mostly sunny with a high around 71, while north winds around 6 to 9 mph may make it feel a little sharper than the thermometer suggests.
Sunday brings the weekend's best outdoor setup: sunny skies, a high near 67 and a low around 49 Sunday night. Boaters should also expect a bumpier turn behind the front, with offshore gusts near 20 knots and waves building to 4 to 5 feet, although no Small Craft Advisory is currently posted.
Warmth Returns Early Next Week
Charleston's weather then rebounds quickly, with sunny skies and highs near 73 Monday, 74 Tuesday and 74 on Veterans Day. The forecast stays mostly dry through Thursday, making Friday's storm window look more like a one-day interruption than the start of a soggy stretch, a sharper timing update from Hoodline's earlier Charleston forecast.
