New renderings reveal what's coming to the former home of the infamous Scores strip club in West Chelsea: a 12-story condominium building with 60 units, a landscaped central courtyard, and a light-gray façade punctuated by rows of projecting windows. The site sits between West 27th and 28th Streets and Tenth and Eleventh Avenues, just steps from the High Line.
GE-T Architecture Workshop's Vision for the Block
The project at 536 West 28th Street is designed by GE-T Architecture Workshop, according to New York YIMBY, which reports the building will yield 60 condominium units. The outlet's newly released renderings show the West 28th Street-facing elevation lined with a grid of protruding floor-to-ceiling windows surrounded by that light gray façade, while the western end takes a different approach entirely, featuring a staggered pattern of recessed ribbon windows. A setback kicks in at the tenth floor, and one rendering highlights a landscaped central courtyard, with the façade in that view appearing to be composed of brick.
The architecture firm's own site describes the development as organized into two twelve-story buildings facing opposite streets, with the pair creating a landscaped garden at the center of the block, according to GE-T Architecture Workshop. That courtyard concept lines up with the central garden visible in the latest renderings.
From Strip Club to Luxury Condos
The project traces back to a notorious tenant. The site was previously occupied by a three-story commercial building, and demolition permits for that structure were filed in December 2024, per the same YIMBY report. Two years ago, Commercial Observer reported that Silvera Properties had filed plans for a 60-unit residential building along the High Line in Chelsea, taking over the former site of the Scores strip club. At the time, Commercial Observer described a 12-story apartment building covering roughly 77,000 square feet and standing 135 feet tall, with ground-floor retail space included in the plans. Crain's New York Business also reported that the former Scores site at 533 W. 27th St. in Chelsea was headed toward becoming housing.
Commercial Observer's report noted Silvera bought the property from Extell Development in June 2023 for $24.5 million, between Tenth and Eleventh Avenues. The same outlet reported Silvera was also developing a 20-unit residential property at the South Street Seaport's 156 Beekman Street and an 11-unit luxury building at Tribeca's 29 Leonard Street around that same period.
Amenities and Access Near the High Line
Planned residential amenities include a lobby, a fitness center, a wellness area with a sauna, a lounge with adjacent garden access, and a game room in the cellar level, according to New York YIMBY's latest coverage. The building's location puts residents close to the High Line, which is accessible nearby via stairs at the eastern end of the block along West 28th Street. The nearest subway access is the 7 train at the 34th Street–Hudson Yards station, north of the development at Bella Abzug Park.
No construction timeline for 536 West 28th Street has been announced, YIMBY reports. Nearby development activity on the same block offers a sense of how long these West Chelsea projects can take to rise: a separate 11-story, 36-unit mixed-use project at 528 West 28th Street, developed by Centaur Properties and Greyscale Development Group, had only reached five stories above street level on its northern portion as of a November 2016 YIMBY report.
