A Developmental Disabilities Alert had been issued for a 24-year-old Fountain woman last seen walking in the 7900 block of Colonial Drive just before 4 p.m. on Monday. Fountain police later reported that Makayla Washburn had been found, and the alert was no longer active. Washburn has a developmental disability and is known to hitchhike and is drawn to large bodies of water, according to authorities.
The alert, issued by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, states Washburn was last seen on foot at 3:41 p.m. on November 2 in Fountain. She is described as 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighing 215 pounds.
What She Was Wearing
Per the alert, Washburn was last seen wearing a black hat, white earmuffs, a white and grey camouflage jacket, and blue jeans. She may be carrying a backpack and a stuffed animal, the bureau said. The alert describes her disability and says she is known to hitchhike or seek out water.
The alert asked anyone who spotted her to call 911 or the Fountain Police Department at 719-390-5555.
Conflicting Reports On Her Status
A separate report from FOX21 News states that a person it identifies as “McKayla” Washburn — spelled differently than in the CBI alert — had been found, attributing that update to the Fountain Police Department. The report was updated at 7:13 p.m. on November 2.
A separate case reported by KOAA involved a 19-year-old identified as Mikayla Washburn, described as intellectually delayed, who was later found safe. It is not established whether that case involves the same person named in the CBI's Developmental Disabilities Alert.
