Four people were injured in a shooting near Legion Field in Birmingham after shots were fired on Graymont Avenue West shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday. Emergency crews responded to treat victims near Third Street West as the investigation got underway.
According to WVTM 13, the four injured were hurt in the shooting near Legion Field, citing Birmingham Fire and Rescue. The station reported having a crew headed to the scene as the situation developed, and noted the piece would be updated as more information became available.
What Remains Unknown
As of this writing, the identities, ages, and medical conditions of the four people hurt have not been confirmed. No suspect description, arrest, or motive had been released, and it remains unclear whether anyone was taken into custody. The exact circumstances of the shooting, including how many shots were fired, also have not been verified.
It is likewise unclear whether the shooting was connected to any event taking place at Legion Field or elsewhere in the area that evening. A post from the Magic City Classic's account on X had promoted a football matchup between Alabama A&M and Alabama State at Legion Field for that Saturday, October 31, but no link between that event and the shooting has been established.
A Year of Falling Homicide Numbers
The shooting comes as Birmingham has been on pace for one of its lowest homicide tallies in years. The city recorded 24 homicides between January 1 and June 30, a 35 percent drop from the 37 killings logged over the same stretch in 2025, according to al.com. At that pace, the outlet reported, the city could likely end 2026 with approximately 50 homicides or fewer.
By the end of the third quarter, Birmingham had recorded 34 homicides, according to figures presented by the police department and reported by ABC 33/40. That marks a steep decline from the city's 2025 total of 88 homicides, which was itself down sharply from 152 in 2024, per the same al.com report.
Birmingham has still seen other mass-casualty shootings this year even as the overall homicide count has fallen. In June, a man and woman were killed and five others were injured after roughly 30 shots were fired in a west Birmingham shooting, al.com reported at the time. Saturday's shooting near Legion Field adds another injury count to that list, though no fatalities have been reported in connection with it.
This remains a developing story. Hoodline will update this article as more verified information becomes available about the victims, any suspect, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting near Legion Field.
