Four children and one adult were taken to a hospital Sunday morning after a fire broke out at a home in the east Las Vegas Valley, according to the Clark County Fire Department. Firefighters arrived to find flames coming from a second-floor window and quickly moved to attack the blaze while searching the house for anyone left inside.

The fire was reported in the 1300 block of Mt. Hood Street near Washington Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard, according to 8 News Now, which reported crews responded around 9:10 a.m. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported a slightly different response time, saying crews responded just before 9:15 a.m. to the same block, north of East Washington Avenue. Once on scene, firefighters observed fire coming from a window on the second floor and immediately deployed hose lines, the newspaper reported.

Beyond knocking down the flames, crews also conducted a search of the residence to make sure no occupants remained inside, per the Review-Journal's account. A total of 32 firefighters responded to the incident, the outlet reported, a sizable deployment to the fire.

Four children and an adult were evaluated at the scene before being taken to the hospital for further treatment, according to KTNV, which cited the Clark County Fire Department. Officials did not immediately release details on the patients' conditions, according to Fox5 Vegas.

Utility Crews and Neighboring Agencies Pitched In

The Clark County Fire Department was assisted at the scene by Las Vegas Fire & Rescue, Southwest Gas and NV Energy, the Review-Journal reported. The cause and origin of the fire remained undetermined as of Sunday, per the same account. KTNV noted that Mt. Hood Street sits between Owens and Washington avenues, and that the fire department asked the public to avoid the area while crews worked, warning that traffic could be affected nearby.

A separate blaze at the Whispering Sands Mobile Home Park occurred the previous Sunday morning, Oct. 25, and damaged two homes and displaced two families, according to a report from KTNV. No additional details connecting the two incidents were available.
