Golden Wok, a Chinese restaurant that had fed the Lincoln, Nebraska community for 36 years, appears to have closed for good.
The closure was reported by 1011now.com on November 3, 2026, and by the Lexington Clipper-Herald on November 5.
Je had hoped to one day bring back dine-in service at the restaurant, according to 1011now.com. That station reported that news of the closure was shared Monday morning. WOWT similarly confirmed the restaurant was closing after 36 years in business.
A Community Mourns a Local Institution
For many longtime customers, Golden Wok was more than a place to grab takeout. The Clipper-Herald described the restaurant as woven into the lives of neighbors and the broader Lincoln community over the decades.
The restaurant's Facebook page, run under the name Golden Wok | Lincoln NE, describes it as Lincoln's locally owned Chinese restaurant known for quality and tasty food.
Joining a Long List of Lincoln Restaurants Lost to Time
Golden Wok's closure adds another chapter to a history of beloved Lincoln eateries that have shut down over the decades. A retrospective from omaha.com traced closures spanning generations, including Tony and Luigi's, which was founded in 1945 and grossed just $6.50 on its first day before closing in 1993. Bishop Cafeteria opened in 1956 at 1325 P St., later moved to Gateway Shopping Center and was renamed Bishop Buffet before closing in 1996, the outlet noted.
King's Food Host, which grew from a State Fair booth into 140 locations across the U.S. and Canada, closed its last Lincoln location at 923 South St. in 2001, per the same report. Tastee Inn and Out, a drive-in known for its loose-meat sandwiches and onion chips, opened in 1949 and closed in 2014. Even Arturo's, a longtime Mexican restaurant that had been known as the Taco Hut before changing its name in 1979, was forced to relocate in 1987 after the city condemned its building for a development that never materialized.
Against that backdrop, Golden Wok's 36-year run came to an end. The closure leaves behind decades of meals and memories, along with uncertainty about what, if anything, will come next.
