Three people suffered serious injuries Tuesday evening when a head-on collision tore through traffic on Farrington Highway, sending a 59-year-old man and two women to the hospital with multiple injuries. The crash happened just after 5:30 p.m. near 86-035 Farrington Highway, involving two vehicles that collided head-on along the busy corridor.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services said paramedics responded with multiple units to treat the three patients, according to Hawaii News Now. The man was 59 years old, while the two women were 38 and 63. All three suffered multiple injuries and received advanced life support at the scene before being transported to an emergency room in serious condition.

Details about what caused the crash were not immediately available, the outlet reported. It remains unclear which vehicle crossed into oncoming traffic or what role speed, weather, or other factors may have played in the collision.

A Dangerous Stretch of Leeward Oahu Roadway

Tuesday's wreck adds to a string of serious crashes along Farrington Highway over the past year. In January, a fatal collision near Liliana Street in the Maili area claimed the life of a 42-year-old pedestrian who was struck by a 50-year-old motorist while crossing outside a marked crosswalk, according to the Honolulu Police Department. Investigators said at the time that speed, drugs, or alcohol did not appear to be contributing factors, and that the collision marked Oahu's second traffic fatality of 2026, compared with just one at the same point in 2025.

Another deadly crash struck the same highway in late May, when a 28-year-old man rear-ended another driver and crossed the center barrier into westbound lanes, according to KHON2. The other driver, a 60-year-old man, remained at the scene and was not injured. That crash was Oahu's 16th traffic fatality of the year at the time, compared with 30 at the same point in 2025, per the same report.

Separate Nanakuli Crash Snarled Traffic Last Year

Farrington Highway has seen other serious incidents as well. A multivehicle crash involving a police car was reported around 8:40 a.m. at Helelua Street in Nanakuli, where the impact caused an eastbound vehicle to strike two additional vehicles, the station's report noted. Honolulu police said speed appeared to be a contributing factor in that crash, and a woman initially listed in serious condition was later determined to be in critical condition. The highway was fully reopened around 12:30 p.m. after that incident was cleared.

No further updates on the condition of Tuesday's three patients or the cause of the collision have been released.
