Hermès reopened its renovated boutique at Americana Manhasset on Thursday, bringing the French luxury house back to Long Island three years after its previous store there shut down. The single-level shop at 1988 Northern Blvd. is now organized around a central rotunda topped by a skylight, with a design meant to echo the area's gardens, homes and waterfront scenery.
The reopening was reported by Long Island Press, which detailed the project's roots in the North Shore's Gold Coast aesthetic. The redesign came from Paris-based architecture firm RDAI, and according to the outlet, the store showcases Hermès' full roster of 16 métiers, or areas of craftsmanship, ranging from silk and leather goods to jewelry, watches, clothing, beauty products and home furnishings. As Greater Long Island reported, the interior also incorporates walnut cabinetry, cherrywood walls and green accents throughout the space.
A Facade Built to Match the Neighborhood
Outside, the boutique's exterior leans into the same regional inspiration. The facade is defined by symmetrical ribbed arches, pale brickwork and large windows, according to FashionNetwork. Inside, tall ceilings and the skylit rotunda give the single-level store an airy, light-filled layout that frames the merchandise displays beneath it.
The store isn't just selling product. Artwork from the Émile Hermès Collection and the Hermès Collection of Contemporary Photographs is displayed throughout the boutique, the report notes. For the reopening, American ceramic sculptor Annie Duncan created a window installation, adding a rotating art element to the storefront that greets shoppers before they even walk in.
From Franchise to Direct Operation
The return marks a shift in how the Manhasset location does business. The boutique previously operated under a franchise arrangement before closing in September 2023; the same reporting indicates Hermès of Paris Inc. now operates the store directly, rather than through a third-party franchisee. That change tracks with plans Castagna Realty Company announced in 2024, when it said a company-owned Hermès boutique would open at Americana Manhasset Shopping Center in fall 2026 — a timeline that lined up with Thursday's reopening.
The Manhasset site has a longer design history behind it, too. An earlier expansion of the boutique, described by architecture firm Spacesmith, doubled the retail floor to 6,200 square feet, and the firm said a 1,600-square-foot temporary store was built across the street to keep the brand present on Northern Boulevard while that earlier work was underway.
