A hit-and-run driver touched off a chain-reaction crash involving six vehicles on the northbound lanes of Texas 360 in Arlington Monday night, just north of Interstate 30, according to police. A passenger in one of the vehicles was hospitalized, and officers were still searching for the driver responsible.
The crash happened at about 5:30 p.m. Monday, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. Witnesses told officers that the driver of an unknown vehicle hit an 18-wheeler and a 2023 Ford Escape, setting off the pileup. That initial collision set in motion a domino effect down the highway.
From there, the Escape hit a 2022 Toyota CHR, which hit a 2023 Hyundai Ioniq, which then struck a 2025 Tesla Model Y, the Star-Telegram reported. A passenger riding in the Toyota CHR was hospitalized, while police said no one else involved in the pileup was seriously injured.
Driver Fled the Scene, Witnesses Say
Witnesses told police the driver who caused the initial impact kept going after hitting the 18-wheeler and the Ford Escape, according to a report from Yahoo News. Five of the six vehicles tangled up in the crash remained at the scene as officers worked to sort out what happened. Arlington police confirmed they were searching for the hit-and-run driver, but as of the latest reporting no arrests had been made and the investigation remained ongoing, per the same account.
Not the First Hit-and-Run on This Stretch
Texas 360 has seen other hit-and-run incidents in Arlington. In a separate case, police were called to a crash in the 3600 block of S SH 360 around 5:15 a.m. on a Sunday, according to CBS News Texas. Investigators in that case believed a 2012 Toyota Yaris had stalled in the outside lane when a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado struck it, ejecting the 33-year-old driver, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The Silverado driver was later charged with intoxication manslaughter and failure to stop and render aid, CBS News Texas reported.
It remains unclear whether Monday's crash on Texas 360 will lead to similar charges once the driver is identified. For now, Arlington police continue to investigate what caused the pileup and are working to track down the driver who witnesses say left the scene.
