Houston is starting Monday, November 2, under muggy fog and mist, with temperatures around 72 degrees before the skies brighten and the mercury climbs. The brief warmup will set the stage for a much wetter Tuesday, when showers and thunderstorms are expected to sweep through the region.

A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect for parts of southeast Texas until 10 a.m. Monday, with drivers urged to slow down, use headlights and leave extra space. The alert is the latest wrinkle in National Weather Service guidance after an earlier Hoodline forecast flagged the fog and approaching front.

Warm Monday Gives Way To Tuesday Storms

Patchy fog should break by midmorning, followed by a high near 84 degrees. Southerly to southeasterly winds will run about 9 to 15 mph, with occasional gusts near 23 mph, while Monday night will have a low around 72.

Tuesday is the main weather story, with an 80% chance of showers and thunderstorms. The broken line of showers and thunderstorms was expected near Houston metro terminals around 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., with locally heavier downpours possible as a cold front moves through and afternoon temperatures fall toward the low 70s.

Cooler Air Arrives Wednesday

Behind the front, Wednesday should feel more like fall, with highs in the upper 70s to near 80 degrees. Wednesday night will be mostly clear and cooler, with temperatures dipping to around 59.

Thursday and Friday look mostly sunny with highs in the mid to upper 70s. Modest precipitation chances may return later in the week.
