IKEA Brooklyn is turning the green park area beside its entrance into a Swedish-style holiday market this weekend, with free entry, local vendors, carolers and Swedish food samples running Friday through Sunday. The first-ever Lingonberry Lane Winter Holidays Market opens at the store's 1 Beard St. location, giving shoppers a festive, outdoor alternative to the mall before the season gets fully underway.
According to amNewYork, the market runs from noon to 7 p.m. on Friday and Sunday, and from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, with admission free throughout. Shoppers can browse local vendors for gifts, sample Swedish food and drinks, and take in photo opportunities, family-friendly games and carolers, per the same report. The outlet also notes that visitors can send a card to bring joy to a local charity.
IKEA's own event page confirms the broad strokes of the celebration, describing “our outdoor holiday market at IKEA Brooklyn November 6-8” as a showcase for “local vendors. Swedish food. Festive finds. Sparkling lights. Fun & games.” IKEA Family members attending can also get free onsite embroidery with the purchase of a blanket, according to amNewYork.
A Swedish Touch Borrowed From Other Markets
The embroidery and sampling activities echo what's happening at IKEA's other outdoor markets this season. Per Retail Dive, attendees at IKEA's outdoor markets in Illinois and New York can embroider blankets, sample Swedish food and drinks, and shop local vendors — the same formula playing out in Red Hook this weekend. Retail Dive reports that IKEA Brooklyn will host its market Nov. 6 to Nov. 8, while IKEA Schaumburg in Illinois will run a similar event Nov. 20 to Nov. 22.
Paul Anderson, home furnishing and retail design leader at IKEA U.S., framed the weekend as part of a broader push toward in-person holiday gatherings. He said holiday moments create joy and that the event creates opportunities for families to spend time together this holiday season, according to amNewYork.
A Bigger Nationwide Event Follows on Black Friday Weekend
IKEA Brooklyn isn't done after this weekend. The Brooklyn store will also take part in IKEA's nationwide Lingonberry Lane Winter Holidays event on November 28, amNewYork reports. That day's lineup includes holiday cookie decorating and holiday hosting workshops, plus the chance for IKEA Family members to create a custom picture frame.
IKEA's campaign page adds that Family members attending the November 28 event can also pick up a limited-edition holiday bag charm while supplies last, with registration required. The retailer notes that activities will vary by store location, so what's offered in Brooklyn may differ from other IKEA locations taking part that day.
Other NYC Holiday Markets
Macy's Holiday Square at its New York store covers 50,000 square feet with 35 gift and food vendors, according to Retail Dive.
Elsewhere in Brooklyn, Time Out reports that FAD Market will run a Dumbo market at Empire Stores on 55 Water Street from November 30 through December 20, open daily from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., alongside a Cobble Hill edition at St. Paul's on Court Street spanning select December weekends. Time Out also notes that Williamsburg's Bk Backyard is set to transform into the Williamsburg Winter Village this December with local makers and independent brands. In Manhattan, Bryant Park's Winter Village is scheduled to run from October 28 through February 28, 2027, with more than 180 kiosks through January 3, per the same report.
For now, the focus in Red Hook is this weekend's three-day run. Those interested in attending can visit IKEA's website for more information and to reserve a spot.
