Part of a Broader Pattern of Street Robberies in Queens
This is far from an isolated case in the borough. In a separate incident reported by QNS, a 21-year-old woman was robbed at gunpoint near 35th Avenue and 92nd Street in Jackson Heights on October 3, with jewelry valued at roughly $2,800 taken from her. In that case, the suspect fled on foot northbound on 92nd Street toward Northern Boulevard, and the woman was not injured, the outlet reported.
Earlier in the year, QNS also detailed a chain-snatching spree that included seven successful robberies and one unsuccessful attempt from October 17 to November 29, 2025, a 43-day period. Six of the successful robbery victims were women.
Robbery Numbers Climbing in Some Precincts
Precinct-level robbery statistics compiled by QNS show a mixed picture across the borough this year. The 113th Precinct recorded 76 robberies so far in 2026, 21 more than the 55 reported at the same point in 2025, an increase the outlet described as 38.2%. By contrast, the 103rd Precinct reported 171 robberies so far this year, a decline of 7.6% from the 185 logged at the same point in 2025.
Through October 18, the 115th Precinct — which covers much of Jackson Heights — had reported 239 robberies in 2026, 20 fewer than the 259 recorded at the same point in 2025, a 7.7% decline. That followed an even steeper drop the year before, when the same precinct logged 186 robberies through August 10, 2025, compared with 270 at that point in 2024, a decrease QNS put at 31.1%.
Similar Tactics Seen Across the City
Chain-snatching cases have also surfaced beyond Queens. ABC7 New York reported that the NYPD has linked three suspects to 26 chain-snatching robberies reported between June 29 and August 28 across the Bronx and Manhattan. Those suspects allegedly rode up to victims on a motorized scooter before snatching jewelry — mostly chains — and fleeing; no injuries were reported in any of those incidents, according to the station.
In a separate case detailed by QNS, a suspect attempted to snatch a necklace from a 16-year-old boy in Jackson Heights in 2025 but failed to pull it off. That incident was notable, the outlet reported, because it was the only time the suspects went empty-handed — and the first time they were caught on camera.
No suspect has been identified in the October 1 Jackson Heights robbery, and investigators have not released further details about the person responsible. NYPD Crime Stoppers is continuing to seek tips from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has information about the suspect's identity.
