A 22-year-old woman was found bleeding on the ground in a Jacksonville Beach parking lot in the early hours of Nov. 1, her left eye swollen shut and her nose fractured, after leaving a bar on Halloween night and walking toward her parked car. She told officers a man had battered her, but she said she could not remember the details of the attack, and she had no idea who might have wanted to hurt her.
A Scream in the Night Near Beach Boulevard
The Jacksonville Beach Police Department reported that the woman, identified by the South Jacksonville Citizen as 22-year-old Alexis Waters, was attacked in the 200 block of Beach Boulevard. According to News4JAX, she had remembered leaving Mango’s as the bar was closing and walking toward her car parked near the Ritz, roughly three blocks north of where she was later found. A responding officer discovered her on the ground, bleeding heavily from her face, and Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department crews treated her at the scene before transporting her for medical care.
Per Action News Jax, the attack took place in a lot across from Bubba Gump, and the victim was knocked out from behind, suffering a broken nose along with other facial injuries. Two witnesses who were in a nearby McDonald’s parking lot heard what the South Jacksonville Citizen described as a “piercing scream.” They ran toward the sound, found Waters bleeding on the ground, and called 911 — though neither witness saw the actual attack unfold.
Witness Describes Man Fleeing the Scene
One of the witnesses reported seeing a white man with curly hair wearing a green long-sleeve shirt hurrying out of the parking lot and heading south on 2nd Street, the same outlet’s reporting indicates. An officer searched several nearby blocks for anyone matching that description but came up empty — the station notes officers did not locate the suspect that morning.
Waters told police she had not argued with anyone before the attack and did not know who might want to hurt her, according to the same account. Her cellphone was later recovered about 100 yards from where she was found, and it appeared to have been run over.
Camera Search Continues as Case Stays Open
Police are now looking for nearby cameras that may have captured the incident. Action News Jax reports that while several nearby businesses have security cameras, none of them are pointed directly at the parking lot where the assault occurred, complicating efforts to identify a suspect. The outlet also notes that employees at businesses along the strip have voiced ongoing safety concerns, with one worker at Flask and Cannon recalling three separate shootings during St. Patrick’s Day in 2024 that previously led Jacksonville Beach police to ramp up security in the area.
The case remains open, and no arrests have been announced. News4JAX says the investigation is continuing as police work to identify the man seen fleeing the scene.
