A juvenile was hospitalized with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg after a shooting on Vance Street in New Britain Friday night, and police say the investigation remains open with little cooperation from people who were at the scene.
Officers responded to a report of a person shot just before 8 p.m. Friday, according to WFSB. When they arrived, they found the juvenile suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg, and the victim was taken to a hospital for treatment.
Police said there were witnesses present at the scene, but the station's report notes they could not provide details about what led up to the shooting. As of Saturday, the investigation remains ongoing, with no suspect, motive, or arrest publicly identified.
A Separate Report Surfaced Days Earlier
Earlier in the week, a different juvenile shooting made headlines in New Britain. According to WTNH, a juvenile was shot Thursday afternoon, and around 2 p.m. officers were approached outside the New Britain Police Department on Chestnut Street by a juvenile suffering from a gunshot wound. That report identified the victim as a Middletown resident who was taken to a hospital for treatment, and on Friday, police said the victim remained in stable but critical condition.
It is not established whether the Thursday incident outside police headquarters and the Friday-night shooting on Vance Street are connected or represent two separate cases. City officials told WTNH that the Thursday shooting appeared to be an isolated incident and posed no threat to the public.
Investigation Continues Amid Limited Information
For now, the two reports stand on their own, each with its own set of unanswered questions. No arrests, charges, or confirmed accounts of what triggered the Vance Street shooting have been released, and police have not said whether they expect further developments soon.
