A juvenile was shot near Edmondson Heights Elementary School in Woodlawn on Monday night, sending officers swarming the school grounds with flashlights as they searched the parking lot and surrounding recreational fields. The victim was taken to a local hospital and is in stable condition, according to police. Authorities say the shooting appears to have been isolated, with no ongoing threat to the public.
Police were called to the school on the 1600 block of Langford Road around 8:15 p.m. on November 2 for a reported shooting, according to WBFF, which reported that the article was published at 10:15 p.m. Fox45 News crews on scene saw officers combing the parking lot and nearby fields with flashlights as the investigation unfolded. Authorities believe the victim may have been known to the suspects, though no further details on a motive have been released.
Violent Crimes Unit Takes Over Investigation
Baltimore County's Violent Crimes Unit is now handling the case, per the same report. Police have reiterated that there is no ongoing threat to the public following the shooting. Anyone with information has been asked to call the Baltimore County Police Department's Woodlawn Precinct.
Edmondson Heights Elementary School also serves as a polling site for the 2026 election, a detail noted in the original report on the shooting. The school's gym, located at 1600 Langford Road, appears on Baltimore County's 2026 polling-place list as a designated voting location, according to a document posted by baltimorecountymd.gov.
Not the First Shooting Near the School
This is not the first time gunfire has erupted near Edmondson Heights Elementary. In October 2023, a 15-year-old boy was found with a gunshot wound near the school and taken to a hospital in stable condition, according to WBAL-TV. That station reported the shooting happened at 3:40 p.m. at the school playground, while CBS News described it as happening just after 3:30 p.m. outside the school in the same block of Langford Road.
In an update on that 2023 case, police said they believed the shooter may have been targeting several people stemming from an earlier altercation, and that the shooting had nothing to do with the school itself, per WBAL-TV's reporting. The school's principal at the time said staff activated a lockdown and brought remaining students and employees into the building as a precaution.
Broader Context Still Unclear for the County
Citywide data from Baltimore paints a mixed picture of youth violence trends, though that data reflects Baltimore city rather than Baltimore County, where Woodlawn and Edmondson Heights are located. The Banner reported that Baltimore recorded just two homicide victims age 17 or younger in the first half of 2025, the lowest first-half total since at least 2015. The outlet also found that nonfatal shootings in the city ticked up slightly from 2024 to 2025 but remained down 49% since 2023, with the city logging 66 total homicides through the end of June 2025, according to Open Baltimore data cited by the same report.
None of those figures speak directly to what happened Monday night in Woodlawn, and Baltimore County police have not released additional details about the circumstances of the shooting, the juvenile's age, or whether anyone has been arrested. The Violent Crimes Unit's investigation remains active, and police are continuing to ask anyone with information to come forward.
