A juvenile and a man were stabbed Friday night at a party in Fresno, leaving officers to piece together what happened after arriving to find the crowd already scattering. Both victims are reported stable, but as of Saturday morning police had not released a suspect description or explained what sparked the violence.
Fresno officers responded at 10:27 p.m. to the 100 block of South Alpine Street, near Tulare Street, where they saw people dispersing from the scene, according to The Fresno Bee. Fresno Police Lt. James Rossetti said officers located a victim who had sustained two stab wounds to the stomach. The juvenile was taken to a hospital, while the second victim, an adult man, went to Clovis for treatment. Both are listed as stable.
Investigators Search for Clues, Offer No Suspect Details
Detectives are now investigating what led to the stabbing, and officers canvassed the area for surveillance video that might help piece together the sequence of events. Police did not provide a suspect description, leaving the circumstances of the attack, including any connection to a prior dispute, unresolved for now. Anyone with information is asked to call Fresno police at 559-621-7000.
Part of a Pattern of Party Violence in Fresno
This is not the first time this year that a Fresno gathering has ended in bloodshed. A separate house party altercation left three people stabbed late on a Friday evening, with two victims listed in stable condition with non-life-threatening injuries and a third in critical but stable condition, the same outlet reported. In April, three juveniles were stabbed during an altercation at River Park in Fresno, a case in which two individuals believed to be between 13 and 15 years old were detained while their exact involvement remained under investigation.
Fresno has also seen stabbing violence outside of party settings. In a separate incident, two men were hospitalized following a confrontation late on a Thursday night in central Fresno, according to YourCentralValley. Investigators have not tied any of these cases together, and the circumstances behind Friday night's stabbing on South Alpine Street remain under investigation as detectives continue working the case.
