A Kingsbury man was arrested twice in a single day after deputies say he violated a stay-away order of protection shortly after his release, returning to the same residence he had allegedly caused trouble at earlier. William V. Kuster, who is from Kingsbury, now faces a mix of misdemeanor and felony charges stemming from the back-to-back incidents on Oct. 25.
The trouble started when Washington County deputies responded to a disturbance at a residence in Kingsbury, according to Newport Dispatch. Victims told deputies on the scene that Kuster showed up at their property and started a confrontation, shoving one victim before assaulting another, as reported by WNYT. The assault reportedly left one victim with minor facial injuries, and Kuster is said to have become physically aggressive when asked to leave the property.
For that initial incident, Kuster was charged with second-degree harassment, trespass, and third-degree assault — a class A misdemeanor — according to CBS 6 Albany. He was arraigned at Washington County Centralized Arraignment Court and released on his own recognizance, with a full stay-away order of protection issued against him barring any contact with or approach toward the protected person or persons.
A Quick Return Leads to New Felony Charges
The order didn't last long. Kuster returned to the protected person's residence a short time later, violating the terms of his release, the outlet's report notes. Deputies arrested him again, this time charging him with first-degree criminal contempt and aggravated family offense — both class E felonies.
Sheriff Jeffrey J. Murphy reported that Kuster's arrests followed the disturbance and a subsequent protective-order violation, according to the article. Kuster was arraigned a second time at Washington County Centralized Arraignment Court and again released on his own recognizance. The protective order remained in effect after that second arraignment.
A Kingsbury Shooting
WNYT has also reported a shooting on Kingsbury Road in which a victim was flown to Albany Medical Center.
The allegations against William Kuster remain just that — allegations and charges, not a finding of guilt. No information on a future court date or case outcome has been reported.
