A 41-year-old woman was robbed at knifepoint near West 107 Street and Central Park West around 11:44 p.m. on Oct. 27, after a man approached her, struck up conversation, then pulled a knife and made off with her portable speaker, fleeing south on Central Park West. The NYPD has released photos of the suspect and is asking the public for help tracking him down.

Part of a Wider Pattern of Park-Adjacent Robberies
The knifepoint robbery adds to a string of recent incidents in and around Central Park. On Oct. 18, three men struck a 32-year-old woman in the head while she rode her bicycle and stole her AirPods, as reported by The New York Times. In a separate incident described by ABC7 New York, a 32-year-old cyclist said three men surrounded her near West 93rd Street and West Drive and went through her belongings during an attempted robbery on a Sunday night. “I grabbed the cup and I hit one of the guys in the head. So that's why they ran,” she told the outlet. No arrests had been made in that case at the time of publication.
Three days before the speaker robbery, a 39-year-old woman was raped at knifepoint on the east side of Central Park near East 66th Street shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 24, according to the New York Daily News. In response, the NYPD increased police patrols throughout Central Park, the paper reported.
Crime Statistics Show a Mixed Picture
Police statistics released Oct. 26 showed roughly 55 robberies, felony assaults, sex crimes and murders in Central Park so far in 2026 — about level with the same point in 2025 and slightly below the same point in 2024, per the Times. But the breakdown by category tells a more complicated story: the New York Daily News reported that robberies climbed from eight at this point in 2025 to 20 this year, even as felony assaults dropped 20 percent, from 15 to 12 incidents through Oct. 18. The Daily News also noted that Central Park has seen five reported rapes in 2026, three of which have resulted in arrests.
Other Recent Incidents Near the Park
The knifepoint robbery is also not the only recent mugging reported just outside the park's borders. West Side Rag reported that a woman was punched and robbed near Central Park West and West 69th Street around 7:40 p.m. in September, with the attacker grabbing her bag before running into the park itself.
Police have not released additional details about the suspect in the Oct. 27 speaker robbery beyond the photos distributed to the public. Residents and park visitors are encouraged to remain alert and to report any information, however small, to Crime Stoppers using the contact options listed above.
