Lake Elsinore has cleared the way for a new indoor volleyball training facility that is already under construction on Corydon Road, with city leaders signing off on the project on Oct. 13 even as the actual square footage of the space remains a bit of a moving target. The facility, operated by FIGS Volleyball Club, is expected to open to the public in early fall, offering local kids and competitive players a dedicated home for the sport.

According to Valley News, the Lake Elsinore City Council voted 5-0 on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, to receive the notice of decision for the application, a step that follows the Lake Elsinore Planning Commission's own 5-0 vote on Sept. 15 to approve the conditional use permit. That commission approval effectively finalized the permit needed for the project to move forward.

FIGS Volleyball Club has selected Lake Elsinore as the home of its newest training facility, according to canyonlakeinsider.com, which reported that the club will occupy nearly 20,000 square feet of indoor space. The same outlet noted the facility will offer year-round youth instruction, competitive training, skills clinics, seasonal camps, leagues and open gym opportunities. Valley News, however, puts the exact figure at an 18,092-square-foot suite within a larger structure — a discrepancy between the two outlets that has not been otherwise resolved.

Where the Facility Fits Into an Existing Industrial Building

Rather than building new, FIGS is moving into a suite inside an existing multi-tenant industrial building in the 32000 block of Corydon Road, per the same Valley News report. That building totals 32,362 square feet and sits on a 3.23-acre property, according to the city documents cited by the outlet.

The property carries a land-use designation of Action, Sport, Tourism, Commercial and Recreation, which Valley News reports allows for sporting venues, events, tournaments, ballfields, soccer fields, lacrosse fields and related accessory uses. That designation is what cleared the path for a volleyball training operation to move into what had been industrial space.

City Frames Project as Part of a Broader Sports Push

City officials characterized the FIGS facility as evidence that Lake Elsinore's broader strategy to attract action sports and recreation businesses is paying off, according to canyonlakeinsider.com, which quoted officials saying the city's “Action Sports Industry Growth & Attraction Plan is already producing results.”

It is not the first time Lake Elsinore has eyed a major volleyball-capable build. Back in 2016, the city floated the Lake Elsinore Diamond Sports Center, a far larger youth sports tournament complex proposed for 23 acres with roughly 520,000 square feet of indoor floor space, as reported by the Press Enterprise. That proposal's 433,000-square-foot ground floor alone was designed to accommodate 58 volleyball courts or be divided into 33 basketball courts, with the project pitched by officials at the time as a potential “catalyst project” for the city's sports ambitions. The 2016 plan also called for about 1,000 on-site parking spaces, backed up by more than 1,800 additional spaces around the city-owned stadium.

The FIGS facility is a far smaller undertaking by comparison, but it arrives as a concrete, near-term addition to the city's sports inventory. With construction already underway and an early fall opening targeted, Lake Elsinore families may not have to wait long to see what the new Corydon Road space looks like in action.
