Lakewood police are investigating a reported shooting outside a pool hall after officers were dispatched Friday to the 8700 block of South Tacoma Way. It remains unclear whether anyone was injured or whether investigators have identified a suspect.
According to KOMO News, the location sits several blocks west of Wards Lake Park. The outlet reported that it was working to contact authorities for more details about what occurred, and described the situation as a developing story. It remains unclear whether anyone was injured or whether investigators have identified a suspect.
An Earlier Shooting on South Tacoma Way
This is not the first time this corridor of Lakewood has drawn a police response. In a separate incident, officers received reports of shots fired inside the B&I Public Marketplace at 8012 South Tacoma Way at about 5:20 p.m., according to KOMO News. That shooting reportedly began during a disagreement between two groups, and authorities said a man pulled a gun and began firing before fleeing the building, believed to have left the area in a vehicle.
Two people — a man and a woman — were found with gunshot wounds to a leg in that earlier B&I Marketplace shooting, as reported by KOMO News, with injuries described as non-life-threatening after they were taken to local hospitals.
Another Lakewood Police Investigation
Gun violence has repeatedly touched this part of Pierce County. On March 29, more than 100 rounds were fired at a house party on the 100 block of East 91st Street around 12:35 a.m., according to the station's reporting. Two women were struck; one died at the scene, while the other was transported to a hospital and expected to survive. Authorities had not identified any suspects or confirmed how many people may have been involved, and that investigation remained ongoing, the report states.
Lakewood police also asked the public to submit photos and videos after a large fight broke out at Harry Todd Park on June 24 and gunfire followed, according to the department. Witnesses with relevant footage were asked to submit it through the department’s online evidence portal, as noted by KOMO News.
What City Plans and Police Data Can Tell Us
The City of Lakewood’s comprehensive plan describes commercial uses as dispersed in pockets or along corridors such as South Tacoma Way. That provides broad land-use context, but does not identify businesses or planned changes specifically around the 8700 block, according to the city plan.
Lakewood Police’s quarterly “Shots Fired” figures count calls for service within the city coded SHOOT, SHOTS or SHOTSD; they do not measure activity specifically on this block, according to the department’s report.
What Remains Unknown
As of now, there is no confirmed information on injuries, a suspect description, an arrest or a motive tied to Friday’s reported shooting outside the pool hall. KOMO has not yet reported a more precise timeline for the incident or the name of the pool hall itself. This article will be updated as police release additional information.
