Lancaster police say a juvenile was taken to a Columbus-area hospital in critical but stable condition after an assault Wednesday morning on the 100 block of Sells Road. Two teenage males were arrested in connection with the incident and taken to the county juvenile detention center.
The Lancaster Police Department said officers were alerted at approximately 10:25 a.m. Wednesday. The victim, identified only as a juvenile, was transferred to a hospital in the Columbus area and remained in critical but stable condition, according to the department.
Police said a 15-year-old male and a 16-year-old male were arrested in connection with the case and transported to the Fairfield County Juvenile Detention Center. The department said the investigation is ongoing.
Investigation Still Active, Few Details Released
Police have not described what led to the assault or disclosed whether the victim knew either of the arrested teens. The department said the investigation is ongoing and that it would share more information as it becomes available.
As of the department’s Wednesday afternoon update, police had not released names, specific charges or further circumstances surrounding the alleged assault. Investigators have not said when they might provide another update.
What Juvenile Detention Means
For a child admitted to detention or shelter care, Supreme Court of Ohio juvenile procedure rules require a prompt detention hearing, no later than 72 hours after placement or the next court day, whichever is earlier. The hearing determines whether detention or shelter care is required; that decision concerns the need for detention, not whether the allegations have been proven.
