Lita’s La Mexicana is preparing to close its Plano restaurant at 7224 Independence Parkway in November, ending a 10-year run, Community Impact reported. The restaurant’s next step remains unclear: the outlet said staff plan to make a separate announcement about a “new chapter,” but no details have been reported.
A distinctive menu, and different closure stories
Lita’s menu combined familiar Mexican-American dishes, including enchiladas and quesadillas, with Indian-inspired vegetarian options. A 2018 Community Impact feature described a separate vegetarian menu that used paneer cheese in Mexican-style dishes. That history helps explain what made the restaurant distinctive; it does not establish why the business is closing.
Other long-running Plano restaurant closures offer examples, not evidence of a shared cause or an industry trend. NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth reported that Fishmonger’s Seafood closed after 41 years, with its owners saying they were ready to enjoy the next stage of their lives. In a different case, NBC 5 reported in July 2020 that Tony’s Cafe, after 31 years in business, could not overcome the pandemic dining-room shutdown and subsequent air-conditioning and electrical problems.
Those accounts describe circumstances specific to Fishmonger’s and Tony’s; neither explains Lita’s decision. For now, the reported facts are that the Independence Parkway location is set to close in November after a decade and that the restaurant has promised another announcement. What that new chapter entails has not been made public.
