Motorcycle rally activity is underway downtown and along Galveston's Seawall this week as the Lone Star Rally kicks off, running from Thursday, Nov. 5, through Sunday, Nov. 8. General admission to the four-day event is free, though organizers are offering paid VIP packages, while concerts are free.

According to CW39 Houston, organizers are advising visitors to book accommodations early amid expectations of large crowds on the island. More than 40 bands are expected to perform across the event, according to Visit Galveston, and the lineup of activities includes motorcycle showcases, custom car displays, a tattoo contest, sound competitions and rodeo games, the station reports.

Road Closures and Parking Changes Around Downtown

Getting around downtown Galveston takes some planning this week. Portions of 20th through 24th Streets between Mechanic Street and Harborside Drive closed starting Nov. 3 for vendor setup, according to ABC13 Houston. The westbound lanes of Seawall Boulevard between 19th and 25th Streets closed beginning Nov. 4, while eastbound traffic remains open, the station reports.

Paid parking in designated areas is set at $2 per hour or $16 per day, per the same ABC13 report. The Galveston Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety are increasing their presence throughout the event, the station notes, as thousands converge on a relatively compact stretch of downtown.

Crowd Estimates Vary Widely Among Organizers

Just how many people — and how many bikes — show up is a point of real disagreement among the sources tracking the event. Visit Galveston states on its event page that the rally typically draws approximately 400,000 attendees and more than 150,000 motorcycles to the island. ABC13, however, reports that organizers expect more than 250,000 motorcycles to arrive this year, a notably higher figure.

The Daily News puts the range even wider, reporting that organizers estimate between 250,000 and 400,000 motorcyclists will attend this year's rally. None of these figures should be read as a final count — they're projections from different sources heading into the weekend, not confirmed turnout.

City Banking on a Major Economic Boost

Money is part of the draw for Galveston as a host city. The Daily News reports that the city projected the 2026 rally would generate more than $115 million for the local economy. That builds on last year's event, when Visit Galveston's public relations manager told Houston Public Media that the city expected an economic impact of more than $100 million from the 2025 rally.

That earlier event was expected to draw more than 150,000 motorcyclists and over 400,000 total visitors over its four days, according to the city, as cited by Houston Public Media. The 2025 rally featured concerts on Friday and Saturday, a Miss Lone Star Rally pageant, a car show and vendors catering to motorcycle enthusiasts spread across roughly 10 blocks of downtown — a similar footprint to what's unfolding in Galveston this week.
