Louisville drivers can once again steer their own cars through a tunnel of more than 7 million lights buried 100 feet underground, as Lights Under Louisville returns to the Mega Cavern for the 2026 holiday season. The drive-through show opens Nov. 13 and runs through Jan. 2, 2027, giving families roughly seven weeks to make the subterranean trip.
The attraction bills itself as an underground wonderland built around seven million points of light illuminating the cavern's subterranean expanse, according to The Louisville Courier Journal, which published its annual guide to the experience. The show sits inside the Louisville Mega Cavern at 1841 Taylor Ave., a former limestone mine now repurposed into a sprawling indoor attraction space. Visitors drive their own vehicles through the cavern for a 30-minute ride, per lightsunderlouisville.com, the event's official site, which also confirms the Nov. 13, 2026, through Jan. 2, 2027 run dates.
Along the route, drivers and their passengers pass themed displays, familiar characters, holiday music and laser effects, according to GoToLouisville.com, the city's official travel source. The site describes the show simply as a magical drive-through holiday light show, underground — a description that fits given the setting roughly 100 feet below the surface.
What It Costs To Drive Through
Tickets are not sold at the gate, so anyone planning a visit needs to buy in advance. The lightsunderlouisville.com site states plainly that all tickets must be purchased ahead of time and will not be available on-site.
Pricing varies by vehicle size. GoToLouisville.com lists a standard vehicle ticket — covering SUVs, trucks and minivans — at $42.99, while a full-size van, limousine, RV or small school bus runs $99.99. The same page's listing covers the full run of the 2026-2027 season.
A Tram Option And Age Rules To Know
Those who would rather skip driving can look into the Christmas Express tram, which is reported to run Nov. 14, 2026, through Jan. 2, 2027, except on opening night, Thanksgiving and Christmas Day, according to the same guide's reporting on indyschild.com. Louisville Mega Cavern's own site notes that tour participants must be at least 7 years old, and anyone under 15 must be accompanied by an adult on the tour, per louisvillemegacavern.com.
The show is framed as an annual seasonal fixture, open only from November to January each year, GoToLouisville.com notes. For the 2026 run specifically, the event is reported to be open every day of its roughly seven-week season, holidays included.
