A 17-year-old boy is accused of threatening an 18-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man with an edged dangerous weapon in Maili late Saturday night, according to the Honolulu Police Department. Police said the confrontation happened around 11 p.m. on Oct. 31. The teen fled the scene but was later tracked down, identified, and taken into custody.
According to KITV, the boy was arrested for terroristic threatening in the first degree and other offenses stemming from the incident. He was released pending further investigation.
Beyond the basic sequence of events, authorities have offered little else. The station's report notes that the Honolulu Police Department provided no further information at the time of publication, leaving key details, including what specifically prompted the confrontation between the teen and the couple, unanswered for now.
Other O'ahu Weapons Cases
The Maili arrest comes amid reports of weapons-related incidents across O'ahu in recent months. In September, Honolulu police said District 8 officers arrested a 12-year-old boy in Ewa Beach after he allegedly approached a 13-year-old girl near a business on Fort Weaver Road, waved a firearm, and threatened to shoot her brother. Per the Honolulu Police Department, that boy was charged the following day with terroristic threatening in the first degree, place to keep, and prohibited weapons, as also detailed by Hawaii News Now.
Maili itself has seen at least one other violent incident this fall. Hawaii News Now reported that a 44-year-old woman was arrested after allegedly stabbing a 50-year-old man at Maili Beach Park in October. And in downtown Honolulu, KITV reported separately that a 51-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of terroristic threatening after allegedly grabbing a firearm and threatening a 40-year-old woman.
