A man was left in critical condition after being shot under the I-35W overpass on Lancaster Avenue in Fort Worth, with police still searching for what triggered the violence. Officers responded at 11:21 p.m. and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound at the scene, before paramedics rushed him to a local hospital.
According to FOX 4 News Dallas-Fort Worth, officers were dispatched to Lancaster Avenue under the overpass just before midnight, where they discovered the wounded man. He was taken to a hospital and listed in critical condition, the station reported.
Investigators Still Searching for a Motive
Early in the investigation, police had not established why the shooting happened, per the station's report. Officers detained several people they believe may have information about what led up to the gunfire, and the same account notes a Gun Violence detective responded to the scene and was interviewing multiple people in connection with the case.
No arrests or charges have been announced, and the circumstances that led to the shooting remain under investigation. The station's report states its information came from the Fort Worth Police Department and FOX 4's Terry Van Sickle.
A Separate Shooting Also Struck I-35W in 2024
The Lancaster Avenue shooting is not the only incident of gunfire connected to I-35W in Fort Worth. CBS Texas reported that three people were shot while traveling south in a vehicle on the same highway, in an incident that occurred just before 5 a.m. on a Saturday.
In that case, the three victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries and self-transported to Texas Health Huguley Hospital Fort Worth South, according to CBS Texas. Police said the suspects in that shooting fled the scene and remained at large, the outlet reported. The Lancaster Avenue shooting and the I-35W shooting are distinct incidents.
