Beloit police officers and fire department crews rushed to the Walmart on Milwaukee Road Tuesday afternoon after a report of an unresponsive man, and when they arrived, they found him already dead near the east side of the store. The City of Beloit Police Department announced the death the same day, saying investigators found no signs of physical trauma and believe the public faces no ongoing threat.
Rescue personnel were called to the Walmart at 2785 Milwaukee Road around 1:12 p.m. Tuesday, according to mystateline.com, which reported that responders located the body of an adult man near the east side of the store. WMTV 15 News reported that Beloit police officers and fire department firefighters were called to the scene just before 1:15 p.m. for an unresponsive man.
No Signs of Trauma, No Threat to Public
Investigators at the scene found no signs of physical trauma and said they believe there is no threat to the public, per mystateline.com's report. The Rock County Medical Examiner's Office is now investigating the official cause of death, with the agency assisting in the broader probe into what happened.
Authorities are withholding the man's identity until his next of kin has been notified. People with information about the death are encouraged to contact the Beloit Police Department's non-emergency dispatch line at (608) 757-2244.
A Similar Case on the Same Street
This is not the first time Beloit police have investigated an unexplained death along Milwaukee Road. In a separate case reported by the Beloit Daily News, the body of a man was discovered during a welfare check in the 800 block of Milwaukee Road on a Sunday evening. Officers had responded to the welfare-check request at about 8:40 p.m., and the man was pronounced deceased after emergency medical personnel arrived.
Preliminary autopsy findings in that earlier case indicated the death was consistent with the man's medical history and showed no signs of foul play, the outlet reported. That investigation remained active while officials awaited a full autopsy report and the review of evidence, with authorities similarly finding no indication of a threat to the public.
As of Tuesday, the Walmart death remained under investigation, with the Rock County Medical Examiner's Office working to determine an official cause of death and Beloit police continuing to withhold the victim's name pending family notification.
