A Halloween party near Greeley turned deadly early Sunday morning when a fight broke out and gunfire erupted, leaving one person dead and another hospitalized. Deputies are now searching for the man they believe pulled the trigger, who fled the scene, crashed his car during a police chase, and ran off on foot.

According to CBS News, the shooting happened around 1:30 a.m. Sunday at a home in the 2200 block of E. 16th Street near Greeley. The Weld County Sheriff's Office says a fight broke out between several people at the party before the gunfire started, resulting in one death and one hospitalization.

Investigators believe Mamre Bojorquez shot two men during the altercation before fleeing the scene. The station's report says Bojorquez then led Colorado State Patrol on a brief pursuit after troopers tried to stop a vehicle matching the description provided by the sheriff's office.

Suspect Crashes, Flees on Foot

Bojorquez refused to stop when Colorado State Patrol attempted the traffic stop, eventually crashing his car near the intersection of Highway 34 and Highway 85. He then ran away on foot, according to the same account, and has not been located since.

The Weld County Sheriff's Office has not released the identity of the man who was killed, saying it will do so only after his next of kin has been notified. Deputies have also not disclosed the condition of the second man who was hospitalized following the shooting.

Deputies Warn Public Not to Approach

Authorities are urging anyone who spots Bojorquez not to approach him and to instead contact local law enforcement immediately. Anyone with information about the shooting or Bojorquez's whereabouts is asked to call the sheriff's office tip line at (970) 304-6464 or email [email protected].

This is not the first shooting tied to a party in Weld County to draw scrutiny in recent months. A December 2025 release from the Weld County Sheriff's Office described detectives investigating a separate shooting stemming from a party where one man was injured and taken to a local hospital.

Gun violence tied to gatherings has also surfaced elsewhere in the region. In a separate incident on the western side of Greeley, KDVR reported that Greeley police responded to a shots-fired call in the 400 block of 71st Avenue and found a 24-year-old man with a gunshot wound. That outlet reported the preliminary investigation indicated another 24-year-old man had been displaying a gun when it discharged, and the victim was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

No arrest has been announced in connection with the Halloween party shooting near Greeley, and the search for Bojorquez remains active. The Weld County Sheriff's Office has not provided additional details on the circumstances that led to the fight at the party.
