Other Recent Worker Deaths on New Jersey Roads
The Medford Township crash comes weeks after other New Jersey workers were killed in vehicle-related incidents while on the job. On October 13, construction worker Brian Flanagan, 47, of Manchester, was struck and killed by an SUV that veered into a marked work zone on the New Jersey Turnpike in Edison, according to nj.com. State Police said Flanagan was working on the southbound outer roadway near exit 10 when he was hit and pronounced dead at the scene.
Ten days later, a Somerset County employee was fatally struck by a commercial vehicle moving through a business parking lot, nj.com also reported. Authorities in that case did not identify the victim or name the business involved, and said the investigation remained ongoing.
In January, a 26-year-old man named John Medvetz was killed by a yard transport vehicle while working in Keasbey, within Woodbridge Township, according to a separate nj.com report. Police said the incident appeared to be an accident, and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration opened an investigation.
Outside New Jersey, an Eaton County Road Commission worker, 24, was killed in a two-vehicle work-zone crash on October 6. The Lansing State Journal reported the crash occurred on Lansing Road near Potterville, with the road closed between Royston and Windsor roads, while mlive.com described the location as Lansing Road in Benton Township, with closures between Royston Road and Windsor Highway.
No broader pattern connecting these separate incidents has been established, and each remains under investigation by its respective local authorities. In Medford Township, police have asked that anyone with information contact investigators as the Burlington County Fatal Accident Investigation Team continues its work.
