A 31-year-old was shot while inside a vehicle on Milwaukee's north side Tuesday evening, and police are now asking the public for help tracking down whoever pulled the trigger. The shooting happened just after 5 p.m. in the 9000 block of N. 75th Street, and the victim was conveyed to a local hospital for treatment as investigators searched for an unknown suspect.
According to a Milwaukee Police Department press release, the shooting occurred at approximately 5:20 p.m. Tuesday in the 9000 block of N. 75th Street. Police say the victim sustained gunshot injuries while inside a vehicle and was conveyed to a local hospital for treatment. Investigators have not released details about the vehicle, the exact circumstances, or any description of a suspect.
Circumstances Still Under Investigation
Milwaukee Police say the circumstances leading up to the shooting remain under investigation, and officers are actively seeking unknown suspects. The department is asking anyone with information to call 414-935-7360, submit a tip through the P3 Tips app, or contact Crime Stoppers anonymously at 414-224-TIPS.
This is not the first time that stretch of N. 75th Street has drawn police attention. A separate shooting near the same block in May 2025 left 14-year-old Maurice Whiters dead and a 16-year-old critically injured, according to TMJ4.
Other Nonfatal Shootings Reported Nearby
Tuesday's incident follows a string of other nonfatal shootings investigated by Milwaukee Police in recent weeks. On October 2, officers responded to a shooting on the 9100 block of N. 76th Street in which a 17-year-old victim was conveyed to a local hospital; police said the circumstances appeared argument-related and that they continued to seek a known suspect, per the same department's press release.
A Broader Decline in Shootings Citywide
Tuesday's shooting comes against the backdrop of a citywide drop in gun violence this year. Nonfatal shootings in Milwaukee fell to 312 in the first nine months of 2026, down from 407 over the same period in 2025, a 23% decline, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. The newspaper also reported that the clearance rate for nonfatal shootings stood at 53% through the same nine-month period, while overall violent and property crime was down 4% from the prior year.
A City of Milwaukee release separately described non-fatal shootings as 27% lower than at the same point the previous year, though that figure is drawn from limited available text and should be read with caution. The Milwaukee Homicide Review Commission, in a collaborative effort with the Milwaukee Police Department, maintains a public dashboard tracking nonfatal shootings and homicides citywide, according to the Medical College of Wisconsin, with data refreshed at least monthly.
For now, Tuesday's shooting on N. 75th Street remains an open case. Anyone with information is urged to contact Milwaukee Police at 414-935-7360, submit a tip through the P3 Tips app, or reach Crime Stoppers anonymously.
