A 12-year-old girl last seen in Beltsville has been found, Prince George's County Police announced. Amy Yanes Martinez had last been seen around 7:50 p.m. in the 6700 block of Industrial Drive.
Police confirmed the news in an update, saying Amy had been found safely and in good health, according to the Prince George's County Police Department. The department's earlier alert had described Amy as 5 feet tall and about 80 pounds, and said she was last wearing a black jacket, a cream shirt, blue jeans and black shoes.
Details Police Shared During the Search
Before Amy was found, police asked the public to report any information that could help locate her. The department's missing-person notice included her physical description and last-known clothing.
A Similar Scare Played Out Weeks Earlier
This is not the first time a Prince George's County child has gone missing and been found safe in recent weeks. In a separate case last month, a young boy wandered away from his home and was missing for hours before a K-9 team tracked him down, according to WTOP. That search involved more than 30 officers, including three K-9 officers, and ended when Cpl. Jason Carter and his bloodhound partner, Beau, found the boy hidden in thick brush just feet from a busy highway after officers searched for three hours.
That case was unrelated to Amy's disappearance, but it underscores how quickly county police have mobilized in recent weeks when children go missing. For now, the department's message on Amy's case remains focused on the outcome that mattered most to her family and neighbors: she has been found safe.
