A 14-year-old boy who had been missing from the Middle River area has been found, the Baltimore County Police Department announced early Wednesday. Daniel Rodwell was last seen on October 28, and police confirmed his location days later in a brief update shared with the public.

The earlier notice said Rodwell was 14 and had last been seen in the Middle River area. It described him as 5 feet 11 inches tall and 210 pounds, wearing navy blue sweatpants and a white t-shirt. A Baltimore County government webpage also referenced the search under the title “Baltimore County Police Department Seek Public's Help in Locating Missing Person.”
How missing-child alerts are assessed
A local missing-person notice does not by itself mean an AMBER Alert has been activated. The Maryland Department of State Police says police first assess whether a missing-child case meets AMBER Alert criteria; that general process does not establish whether an alert was considered or issued in Rodwell’s case.
For national context, the FBI’s 2023 National Crime Information Center report says 563,389 missing-person records were entered into the database that year. That is a nationwide record-entry count, not a Maryland-specific trend or an outcome measure for Rodwell’s case.
How the Search Played Out
The earlier notice asked anyone with information about Rodwell's whereabouts to call 911 or (410) 887-0220. Police confirmed he had been located, but their update did not say where or how he was found.
The department also used the moment to remind residents of some basic guidance for its social media presence: it does not collect messages sent through its X account and advises anyone facing an emergency to call 911 directly rather than relying on social media for urgent contact. The account identifies itself as the official channel of the Baltimore County Police Department, based in Baltimore County, Maryland.
