A 36-year-old Modesto man, Chance Cyrus Hasley, was arrested on domestic-violence charges.
Domestic Violence Calls and Arrests in Stanislaus County
Stanislaus County received 2,748 calls for assistance related to domestic violence in 2023, according to the Modesto Bee, citing the California Department of Justice — down from a peak of 3,283 calls in 2020, but still a heavy caseload for local agencies.
Arrests have also climbed. From January through September of 2024, domestic-violence arrests rose 21% for the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office and 17% for the Modesto Police Department compared with the same stretch the year before, the newspaper reported. Deputy District Attorney Vita Palazuelos told the outlet that 70% to 80% of domestic-violence victims in the county are unable to testify, a barrier prosecutors regularly face in building these cases. The Modesto Bee also noted the CDC estimates that one in four women and one in seven men will experience physical violence from an intimate partner at some point in their lives.
A Separate Modesto Case With a Similar Pattern
Hasley’s conviction follows a similar case out of Modesto involving 33-year-old Daniel Ernesto Ramirez, who was found guilty of battery of an intimate partner causing a traumatic injury, according to Yahoo News. That assault occurred on September 5, 2025, when Ramirez punched a woman in the face and then struck her with her own phone, causing a roughly one-inch laceration to her eyebrow. Ramirez faces up to nine years in state prison when he is sentenced, per the report.
Deputy District Attorney Vita Palazuelos has advised victims to inform law enforcement, and TheHotline.org is a resource for people experiencing domestic violence.
