Authorities are investigating after three elderly people were found dead inside a home on the unit block of Winding Way in Mount Holly Township, according to the Burlington County Prosecutor's Office. A mail carrier delivering to the home Friday afternoon found a handwritten note taped to the door asking whoever read it to call 911.
The home sits near the township's border with Eastampton, according to NBC10 Philadelphia, which reported that the postal worker's discovery of the note prompted the call that sent Mount Holly police to the address. Officers found the three bodies inside. Authorities have not released the victims' identities, ages or further information about them.
No Threat to the Public, Officials Say
Burlington County Prosecutor Lachia L. Bradshaw and Mount Holly Police Chief Clifford Spencer said in a joint statement that there is no danger to the public connected to the deaths.
Bradshaw and Spencer said the Burlington County Medical Examiner's Office would conduct autopsies on all three victims over the weekend in an effort to determine how they died. The cause and manner of death have not been disclosed, and no details about what led to the deaths have been made public.
What Cause and Manner of Death Mean
The Burlington County Medical Examiner's Office defines cause of death as the medical condition that caused death, while manner of death classifies how it occurred as natural, accidental, homicide, suicide or could not be determined, according to the Medical Examiner's Office. In this case, officials said autopsies would help determine how the three people died, but have not announced the findings.
Investigation Continues
The Burlington County Prosecutor's Office and Mount Holly Police Department are working together on the investigation. Bradshaw and Spencer described the case as ongoing but did not say when more information might be released or whether additional updates are expected in the coming days.
For now, the few confirmed details, the note on the door, the discovery of three bodies, and officials' insistence that residents face no broader danger, are all that has been made public about what happened inside the Winding Way home.
