Walmart has started hiring for its new Supercenter rising near World Golf Village in St. Johns County, with listings advertising most hourly jobs at $15 to $28 an hour even though the store still has no announced opening date. The retailer is building Supercenter #3909 at 150 Foundry Lane, and it's currently seeking stockers, front-end service associates, seasonal workers, a human resources associate and pharmacy staff.

According to St. Johns Citizen, a certified pharmacy technician position pays $20.50 to $33.50 an hour according to listings, while supervisory and pharmacist roles pay more than that, per the same listings. The new store is under construction off International Golf Parkway, located across from Tocoi Creek High School and about two miles west of Buc-ee's, Costco and Bass Pro Shops. County leaders have previously flagged that the Walmart and nearby Bass Pro Shops developments could increase congestion on surrounding roads, according to News4JAX.

Permit Puts Project Cost Near $18.7 Million

St. Johns County issued a building permit for the project in January, with a reported project cost of $18.65 million, according to Jacksonville Daily Record. That outlet reported the store at 179,708 square feet, while News4JAX previously put the figure at 180,364 square feet and the Daily Record later referenced a 185,000-square-foot construction permit in a separate report — the St. Johns Citizen's reporting describes the store as roughly 180,000 square feet. The site sits on 21 acres, and the store will include an attached garden center and liquor store, per the permit details reported by the Daily Record.

The store is also set to include a fueling station with 20 pumps, and the project will be the third Walmart Supercenter in St. Johns County, joining locations at 845 Durbin Pavilion Drive in Saint Johns and 2355 U.S. 1 S. in St. Augustine. Walmart has not announced an opening date for the new store, the St. Johns Citizen's reporting notes.

Surrounding Outparcels Taking Shape

Surrounding outparcels are taking shape around the store, with nine separate outparcels planned and each to be permitted separately. Panda Express already opened its outparcel location at 3337 International Golf Parkway on October 27, and surrounding development plans also include Chick-fil-A, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Chase Bank and Wells Fargo.

A First Watch restaurant is planned on a southwestern outparcel of the Walmart development, the Daily Record reported. The land beneath the store was listed for sale for $22.9 million this year, with Walmart guaranteed a new 20-year ground lease as part of that listing.

How It Compares to Other County Stores

The Durbin Park Walmart Supercenter at 845 Durbin Pavilion Drive is another existing St. Johns County location, even as the World Golf Village-area store moves through construction without a confirmed debut date.
